Duke University is in an uproar about a highly detailed
"f**k list" that a recent female graduate made — in PowerPoint, complete with penis-size evaluations and dirty talk transcripts. Here's the link to the NSFW presentation.

“It makes me ashamed that the Duke name is attached to what she’s done,” Nicole Queathem, 22, a senior from St. Louis, said as she sat in the student union. “And it’s the age-old double standard: people are more critical of what she did because she’s a girl.”
It is a double standard alright. Just in the opposite way the author stated.

She will get far more reward and face far less problems than a man would.

With all the publicity she will probably get a book deal, a radio show, a column or in someway milk the notoriety for fame and fortune.

Picture the results if it was a man's powerpoint.

He would be vilified, burned (in effigy IF he was lucky). If he was still in school he would be forced to leave the school. If he was a graduate his place of work would be receiving all sorts of extortion letters demanding his removal. His life would be made hellish in deed. Heck, he'd even be attacked for his limited range of "subjects". He would certainly face much harsher accusations of racist than she is.

I think it depends of what the criticism IS. A man would be accused of being a pig and she'll be accused of being a slut. He won't be villified for having sex, he'll be villified for how he treated the sex. She'll be villified for having it AND having the gall to be mercenary about it.

I think we don't tend to be as sympathetic to victimized men as we should be, but I disagree that she isn't going through hell. I think most men and women have great funny and tragic storeis about their sex lives that they share with their friends. She did something moronic by putting it on paper and ended up humilating those guys and herself. It doesn't sound like she's having a fantastic time of it. Also I wouldn't want to have to face my mother and father with the fact that I've had at least thirteen sex partners and the details are there for everyone I've ever known to read.

How do you know that publicity or notoriety or fortune are things she wants? It's not a reward if she doesn't want it. The assumption that she'll enjoy all this attention (because she is female) is just a touch of the sexism she'll experience. I can name at least three male celebs off the top of my head that spilled dirt (cruelly) about having sex with certain women and had no repurcussions at all.
