101 Scientific Facts From the Bible
101 Scientific Facts From the Bible
At first I thought - I hoped - that this would be satire. No, done with the utmost seriousness is 101 scientific facts shown in the bible. There are a number of fallacies here, but look on it as if it was satire.

A number of fallacies? If I was in an angry mood right now, I bet I could come up with a contradiction for each and every one of 'em.

Sheesh.

Now come on, Evolution can not account for you being so angry, therefor it is obvious that it must be the work of Satan. You need to fight him

Every good Christian already knows that we fight him daily. We fight him in our sleep, even. That damn Satan... giving me all these perverted, impure thoughts right now about this one specific co-worker of mine.... and making me want money...... and making me feel bad when I tell a bum to get a job, and that, no, he can't have my spare change...........
AGGHH!! WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME, SATAN??!?!?!!

I'm sure the explanation of string theory is in the bible too - probably somewhere in Leviticus between the ravings about whose nakedness you're not allowed to view and what you can be stoned to death for eating, etc.

i stopped reading them when i reached number 14 ... these aren't scientific facts in the bible, this is a list of b***hing about science. then again, maybe i'm biased when it said the "chicken or the egg" thing was "a dilemma philosophers have been debating for centuries".

I stopped reading when I realized that three were only 3 sources referenced, none of which are peer-reviewed. I can't read that pretending it's fallacy because I will get far to mad and I'll take the anger out by typing heavily on my keyboard and I like my compy too much for that!

Now I know why people turn to drugs...They'd sure make reading this hurt my head A LOT less. Since when was it scientific fact that god created emotions? That doesn't make any f***ing sense! And they appear to get worse as they go on...

Holy hell, this guy raped the bible and science and every possible shred of common sense that his brain may or may not have had to begin with. I can't upvote this...it breaks my heart and my mind.

Wow a lot of passion in this thread...gnashing of teeth and wailing.

I think some of them are kind of interesting. The sanitation system the Israelites had was a good idea.

I couldn't find ANY that were interesting. Most of them consisted of things like:

"Boats weren't really popular until the 1900s and yet mysteriously the people of the bible knew how to sail boats really well. PROOF!"

I felt like I had to upvote it. Not because it didn't break my head, but because very strong lights need to be shone on this sort of stuff.

You mean this one?

The Bible specifies the perfect dimensions for a stable water vessel (Genesis 6:15). Ship builders today are well aware that the ideal dimension for ship stability is a length six times that of the width. Keep in mind, God told Noah the ideal dimensions for the ark 4,500 years ago.

Some of them are kind of ridiculous, but that one's pretty specific

Well, that one typified them for me yep.

And whadaya know, after a little research into hull length/width ratios, there ISN'T an 'ideal' ratio, unlike the 6/1 quoted to Noah. The idea ratio changes depending on the speed you're trying to achieve.

I'm sure the 6/1 worked well for the fishing boats for 1000s of years before the Bible was written though.

Again, it just shows how little research other than, ohh, that one sounds facty and has an air of truthiness™ to it.

What's all the fuss about? Why such the extreme reaction? Some of them have merit and some are kinda far out and kooky, but your sweeping generalizations and strong reactions are borderline Bulverism. I can see why people say "Oh my God... This guy is ridiculous" when they reach the part about the atomic force being a result of Jesus literally holding atoms together, but I doubt that you could conjure up a contradiction to each point.

And yes, I used the word "conjure" because conjuration is witchcraft, witchcraft is of the devil, and to contradict this list is of the devil.

The thing that angeres me the most about sites such as this is that they assume scientists believed they knew and know everything at all times.

It's not as though every scientist said "there can't be springs in the bottom of the ocean," they thought "well, we don't know what's there."

It turns out, there aren't real springs at the bottom of the ocean - at least, they aren't potable! Black (and white) smokers could be classified as springs, though they're laden with Pb, Zn, Ag, S, and all the rest of those goodies which can eventually be found in VMS deposits!!

The contradictions and strong opinions are not specifically to what the guy is saying, but what the guy is claiming that each point proves.

I'll not argue that almost all of them are spot on and that the Bible does appear to be stating facts about the world around it. I draw the line that it proves anything though - people of 2000+ years ago lived much closer to nature than we did and most of the 'facts' were common knowledge back then.

I could quite easily use exactly what he's used to prove the opposite - for example:
"Joy and gladness understood (Acts 14:17). Evolution cannot explain emotions. Matter and energy do not feel. Scripture explains that God places gladness in our hearts (Psalm 4:7)"
Actually, joy and gladness do not exist in our hearts but in our brains as the result of a chemical balance.

To go one step further, cherry picking the the best of the Bible to come up with this list of 101 science facts is a little weak too - I could, without much effort, make a list double that size with statements that blatantly contradict science far more strongly, such as God causing the sun to stand still for a full day (Joshua 10:12) and then to top that actually reversing it (Isaiah 38:7-9). Funny that nobody else on the planet would notice such a astronomical anomaly in their records...

You're kidding with that statement - right?

Why is it of the Devil to contradict that list? Because it's pro-Bible? The list was written by a HUMAN. Is it not possible that humans are just wrong? Even if then mean well and are desperately trying to convince themselves of the Bible's validity, they can be wrong.

I'm a catholic, and I believe in evolution, and I know since I was a child, that many of the things mentioned on the bible are symbolisms.

Things like this are the ones that make so many people have a bad image about us Christians. A small group of radicals make the world think that we're all alike.
